About the pond of Bois de la Cambre
The pond of Bois de La Cambre is located in the southern part of the park in the City of Brussels. In 1861, when Avenue Louise was built, the City obtained Bois de la Cambre, an area of more than 106 hectares, to transform it, at its own expense, into a public park. The wood is divided into two parts, each with a focus of interest: a stone bridge for one, intended to be as natural as possible, whose work was completed in 1867; a lake for the other, with an island in its centre. The artificial pond is not linked to any natural stream of water. It is fed by rain water and fresh water from the network.
The pond of the Bois de la Cambre has always been used as a dedicated leisure area in the Bois de la Cambre. A ferry takes you to the central island and the Robinson chalet, while boats cruise on it. From the first days of good weather, the lawns surrounding the pond are used as a relaxation/picnic area by a very large number of people in Brussels. The park is used for events all year round, the largest of them are the 20km of Brussels or the start of the Tour de France in 2019. Today, it is possible to rent boats to cruise on the pond. From April to October, about fifty boats are available from noon. Fishing is also allowed on the pond. The right to fish in the Etang du Bois de la Cambre is granted to the concessionaires of Chalet Robinson. Competitions are held several times a year.
